Q: What is the Monopoly Game?
A: The McDonald’s Monopoly game starts on Wednesday, 25th of August and will offer customers the chance to win prizes by peeling off stickers from items off the menu. Included in these prizes are 3 different types of digital magazine offers:
- 1 Single digital magazine
- 3 months digital magazine subscription
- 12 months digital magazine subscription
If a customer wins a prize, they will be directed to register on the McDonald’s website. After registration, they will receive an email from McDonalds including a voucher code to be redeemed within one of the magazine apps, and they will be referred to a Great Magazines landing page to choose which magazine they would like to read.
Q: How do I redeem my code?
A: The chosen magazine app will need to be downloaded from either the Google Play or Apple App Store. Once the app is downloaded the code can be redeemed from the ‘Vouchers’ section found in the app menu on the left side of the app. If a voucher has been redeemed correctly, it will be marked as valid, and the app will advise to continue to the library and the buttons to the respective issues will have changed to download automatically.
Q: Who do I contact if I have problems redeeming the code?
A: If there are any error messages, the buttons do not change to download, or the customer has a general question regarding use of the code, please send them to our technical support address: appsupport_uk@bauermedia.com
Q: Who do I contact if I experience technical difficulties with the app?
A: For any other technical difficulties with the app, customers can also be directed to: appsupport_uk@bauermedia.com
Q: What iOS devices and operating systems do the apps support?
A: Our apps work with any operating system from iOS 11 onwards. They also work with any device that has a 64-bit processor, or greater. Older devices with 32-bit processors and iOS 10 or before are NOT supported. The following devices are NOT supported any longer:
- iPad 1
- iPad 2
- iPad Air 1
- iPhone 3, 4, 5
All devices after the above should be fine.
If you have any questions on this, please email appsupport_uk@bauermedia.com and we’ll advise further.
Q: What Android devices and operating systems do the apps support?
A: Our apps work with the three most-recent Android operating systems, which are
Anything before this is not supported.
Also, make sure your device has a 64-bit processor or more. Older devices with 32-bit processors or less are not supported.
If you have any questions on this, please email appsupport_uk@bauermedia.com and we’ll advise further.
Q: Are the apps compatible with Kindle / Kindle Fire devices, or Nook?:
No – this promotion only relates to iOS and Android devices with the above spec.
Q: How do I redeem my voucher within the app?
A: It’s easy! The below works on both our iOS and Android apps:
- Go to your App Store (Apple or Google Play)
- Search for the app – ie Empire Magazine, or Car Magazine
- Install it on your device
- Launch the app
- Open the main menu (see burger button on top left of screen)
- Tap the ‘Vouchers’ button
- Input your voucher code and tap ‘Redeem’
- Go back into the main library and download your issue!
If you have any questions on this, please email appsupport_uk@bauermedia.com and we’ll advise further.
Q: How many issues will I get when I redeem the voucher?
A: If you have won a single digital issue as your prize, once you redeem the voucher you’ll be able to download the latest issue in the app.
If you have won a three-month digital magazine subscription, you’ll get three months’ access to the app from the moment your voucher is redeemed, which will include every issue that goes live in that period.
If you have won a 12-month digital magazine subscription, you’ll get 12 months’ access to the app from the moment your voucher is redeemed, which will include every issue that goes live in that period.
How many issues that is will depend on the magazine you choose and when issues go live. For example, over the course of the three months you could get three or four issues of our monthly titles, or 10 or more issues of our weekly titles (some weeks we publish double issues). Once the set subscription (either 3 month or 12 month) period is finished, you will no longer get access to the app unless you want to upgrade to a paid subscription.
Q: My issues won’t download and/or the app crashes. What am I doing wrong?
A: Firstly, are you using an older device and operating system? The app no longer supports devices running 32-bit processors. This includes the iPad 1, iPad 2 and iPad Air 1; along with the iPhone 3, 4 and 5.
Secondly, what operating system are you using? You need to be using iOS 9 or later. If you try and download an issue using any of these devices or operating systems, the app will likely crash.
If you’re using supported devices / operating systems, yet are still having difficulty downloading issues, please follow these tips:
- When you download an issue please only download one at a time
- Remain on the page when the issue is downloading, until the process is complete
- Do not navigate away from the app
- Do not attempt to download more than one issue at once
Also, please check the available storage space on your device. To download a single digital edition, we’d advise you need 750MB free for a smooth download. Some of our digital editions – back issues especially, that might have been made in older software – could take up 500MB or so, though this is very unusual
Always use a good WiFi connection to download – the faster your broadband/fibre speed, the quicker the download
Check how many apps your device has running at once. If a number of apps remain launched & open on your device, it can take up the device’s available memory and make it tricky to download a digital edition of a magazine. Ideally, only have one or two apps running simultaneously when you’re downloading a digital magazine
If you have any questions on this, or if the app keeps crashing even though you’re using a supported device and operating system, please email appsupport_uk@bauermedia.com and we’ll advise further.
Q: Can I read my issues offline?
A: Yes! Just make sure you download them fully first over a good WiFi connection. Once downloaded, they will store on your device and can be read offline.
Q: What kind of functionality does this app offer?
A: That very much depends on the editorial team! At Bauer Media, our bigger titles tend to have fully interactive apps. These include:
- Empire
- Grazia
- Car
- MCN
- Take a Break
In Empire, you’re likely to see trailers of current and future film releases, along with full interactivity, animations, bonus content, extra picture galleries, extra audio and their famed podcast.
In Car, you could see extra content along similar lines: the same also with Bike. Grazia is designed specifically for tablet and mobile and gives you a reading experience tailored just for your device.
And our photographic title contains fabulous, fully instructional video content (and a lot of it!) designed to improve your photography skills.
MCN, Q and Take a Break all have content that is optimised for reading on smartphones. If you’ve bought any of our other titles using this app software, they may contain some extra content – if the editorial team has the resource to add it – or they may just be replicas of the print edition. If you have any specific questions to do with the functionality of your app, please email appsupport_uk@bauermedia.com either direct or through the ‘Feedback’ section in the app’s menu and we’ll get back to you.
Q: Can I download a magazine over my mobile data network?
Yes, absolutely. However, we do not recommend it. Some of the file sizes are large and this will use up a lot of data. Depending on the data deal you have with your network supplier, you may be charged to download over a mobile data network. This cost could be considerable. Also, if you’re abroad, we would definitely not recommend downloading over a mobile network. Our advice would always be to ensure you download over a safe and secure WiFi network – the better the speed of the connection, the faster your download will complete.
Q: The print edition has a cover-mounted gift on it. Do I get that as part of my digital edition subscription?
A: We regret to say we cannot offer the cover-mounted gifts some print editions will carry on their front covers, or that are bagged with the issue.
Q: Does this app automatically collect any sensitive personal data?
A: No. We will clearly obtain your consent to collect and/or process your personal information when we are required to do so by law.
However, the app does track generic user behaviour – for example, the number of issues that are downloaded, the type of devices and operating systems being used to access content in the app, how long you might spend reading an issue, the purchases you might make in order to fulfil them.
Additionally, if you send us an email via the ‘Feedback’ section of the app, you should know that in doing so, you will be providing data on your usage of the app that may help us fix any technical problem you may have or have had with the app, or answer any question you might have asked about the app.
This data, which may include your email address, will not be stored by us. No data from this app will be used for promotional purposes. Your app-usage data will not be handed to third parties, unless it's essential for us to do so to solve technical problems. In this case, we may pass your app usage data only to our technical partners - Sprylab technologies GmbH and CDS Global (Great Magazines) - or both.

If you have any questions relating to your personal data and how Bauer Media uses it, or if you wish to request information on the data or yours we may hold and how we may be using it, please email us at dataprotectionofficer@bauermedia.co.uk and we’ll happily comply with any request you might have.
